The Memory Day of the Holocaust is now part of important dates in our country year. It is recalled on January 27, 1945, the liberation of Auschwitz. The date was chosen by the UN as a symbolic date for the release of all camps. Italy, with a law approved unanimously by Parliament a decade ago, has made a date of celebration, with edifying intent for schools. The recurrence was established by the Italian Parliament July 20, 2000 by Law No 211 states: "The Italian Republic recognizes the 27th day of January, date of the gates of Auschwitz," Memorial Day "in order to remember the Holocaust (extermination of the Jewish people), the racial laws, the persecution of Italian Jewish citizens, the Italians who suffered deportation, imprisonment, la morte...(...)...".

L'avvicinarsi della data ha stimolato un'attività intensa e senza stanchezze all'interno delle nostre scuole, sono stati approntati dei percorsi, intraprese delle iniziative, visti dei filmati scelti, letti e partecipati brani di libri perché Anna Frank e Primo Levi erano, comunque, già da prima nel cuore dei ragazzi delle elementari. Nei TG abbiamo sentito il discorso del Presidente della Repubblica On. Giorgio Napolitano, assistito alle cerimonie della Camera e del Senato. Abbiamo visto la Comunità Ebraica non soltanto di Roma radunarsi nella grande sinagoga sul Lungotevere (luogo sacro preminente che tutte le nostre scolaresche dovrebbero imparare a visitare, insieme con il Museo Ebraico, non soltanto per rispetto della storia ma per quell'atmosfera di profondo rispetto degli altri che si respira). Entrare in quella sinagoga, se non si può arrivare fino alla visita ad un lontano campo di concentramento o alle vicine Fosse Ardeatine, è davvero commovente. Eppure... non si può concentrare tutto il senso in una sola data, in una sola o in qualche celebrazione. Bisognerebbe che il genitore e il docente nel comune progetto della loro compartecipazione educativa imparassero a gestire il Memory Day pure oltre le immagini dei mattoncini della memoria cementati per strada al Portico di Ottavia o le pur significative interviste ai sempre più rari sopravissuti insegnando ai propri figli/ragazzi con un'azione costante e pervasiva la riscoperta della bellezza della brotherhood among people of different status and condition whatever that is, morality and the ethics of coexistence and multicultural multispirituale so questioned, if not now affected by so many contrary winds of intolerance ...
